Abstract

This collection contains a variety of mission press kits (1990-2002) produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). These materials were donated to the University of Central Florida, Libraries by Meg and Rick Scharf. Mr. Scharf attended a number of launches as a member of the press and collected these press kits. A few Space Shuttle Mission Chronology reports (1981-2001) and John F. Kennedy Space Center Facility maps (1996-1997) can also be found in the collection.

Abstract

The collection consists of over 10,000 color transparencies, black & white and color photographs documenting National Aeronautics and Space Administration's activities in the Kennedy Space Center, Florida from 1962 to 2001. Photographs chronicling the building of the space shuttle programs such as Skylab, Apollo, Soyuz, and Space Transportation System (STS) missions.

Abstract Scott H. Simpkinson collected these materials during his tenure as a NASA staff member from the 1950s until the early 1980s. The collection includes documents, photographs and objects related to the various NASA projects Simpkinson worked on, including Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Viking and the Space Shuttle program.
