Biographical or Historical Information

The University of Central Florida library was the first building to be erected on campus in 1968 and has since been the center from which the campus has grown. All social and academic acclivities in the first years of the university were conducted within the university library. Classroom space was provided in the library as well as holding the offices of the university's first president, Dr. Charles N. Millican, and his staff. Even with the quick growth of the campus, the university library has remained a hub for cultural and intellectual activity, offering students and faculty an open forum for discussion and reflection.

Abstract

The University of Central Florida Library Exhibits Collection contains slides of the University of Central Florida Library Exhibits from 1970-1979. However, many of the materials contained within this collection date back to as early as 1969. In many cases, local newspaper articles advertising and critiquing the exhibits are included as well as programs, pamphlets, and patron comment sheets. The library was the first building to be built on the campus, thus making the library's entryway primary space for all university departments to showcase various presentations or projects where they otherwise could not. This collection highlights the many varied campus exhibits, while showing how the library functioned as a multi-use building in the university's early years.

Processing Information

Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by April Karlene Anderson in 2005. Rusted paper clips were removed and replaced with plastic clips. News clippings were photocopied onto acid-free paper. All materials were rehoused in acid-free folders and boxes. Duplicates were removed and social security numbers were obliterated. Post-it notes were moved to the edge of the documents to prevent destruction of information. To facilitate research, files in the alphabetical files that belonged more appropriately in other series were moved. The finding aid was updated for consistency among all collections by Mary Rubin in 2012, resulting in edition 2. The finding aid was placed into Archon, with adjustments made for Archon and resulting in edition 3, by Mary Rubin in 2015. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 4.
