The mission of the Library Promotion Coordinating Committee (PCC) is to recommend initial rank for new hires, and to coordinate the faculty promotion and Cumulative Progress Evaluation (CPE) processes. The purpose of the CPE is to provide evaluative feedback and guidance on the appropriateness of professional activities with sufficient lead time for a candidate to take corrective measure. This collection contains minutes, agendas, a committee manual, a timeline, and ballots.

Biographical or Historical Information

The Librarian's Promotion Committee was established in 1978 to review documentation and to make recommendations on librarians applying for promotion. In 1983, the duties were expanded to include recommendations of initial rank for newly-hired librarians and coordination of the Excellence in Librarianship Award. At that time, the name was changed to Librarians? Personnel Advisory Committee (LPAC).

Over the years LPAC was asked by the Director of the Library to assume various duties or perform tasks related to faculty affairs. Examples include the responsibility for developing and maintaining the merit pay and evaluation criteria, responsibility for conducting elections for the Libraries? Faculty Senate and PEP committee representatives, and establishing processes for Cumulative Performance Evaluations, University Committee appointments, Graduate Faculty Scholar Status, etc. LPAC also performed professional development duties which were temporarily assumed by a Mentoring Committee between July 2004 and December 2007.

In November 2011 the Libraries' faculty voted to separate promotion and faculty affairs duties into two committees. Beginning in 2012 the Library Promotion Coordinating Committee assumed responsibility for facilitating the promotion process and cumulative performance evaluations, and recommending initial rank. Other faculty related responsibilities were assumed by the Faculty Affairs Committee.
