Scope and Contents

The UCF Staff Council Papers contain written records as well as a few audio records of the activities that the staff council has participated in. This collection gives an insight into the meetings, fund-raisers, correspondence, etc. that the staff council has handled since its beginning in 1971.

Series I: Chronological Files, 1971-2010 contains the files created by the UCF staff council including meeting minutes, charters, invitations, awards, correspondence, election materials, etc. The files also contain meeting audio tapes of 1976 and 1977. Miscellaneous files in Series II covering 1989-2002 have been integrated into Series I as of 2014. The 2010 accession ranging from 1986-2010 has also been integrated into Series I.

Series II: Chronological Binders, 1989-2002 contains reports, election material, charters and other documents produced by the staff council. After 1993 materials were stored in binders rather than files, but the content is similar to Series I. Miscellaneous files in Series II covering 1989-2002 have been integrated into Series I as of 2014. The 2010 accession ranging from 1986-2010 has also been integrated into Series II.

Biographical or Historical Information

The UCF Staff Council is a strictly volunteer organization of university support personnel system (USPS) employees that was founded in 1971 with the first chairman Richard N. Neuhaus. The council serves to encourage and promote a spirit of unity and open communication between USPS employees and the university administration. It works with the administration to address the staff's concerns and interests.

Council members are elected to serve for two years, and five officers govern the council, president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian. Several committees facilitate the council's work, such as, Budget, Fund-raising, Marketing, Research, and Special Activities. The council organizes fund-raising activities and represents the staff on university committees, such as, Traffic and Parking, Employee Benefits, Safety, Diversity and Athletics.

Abstract

The UCF Staff Council laid its groundwork in 1971 with its first chairman Richard V. Neuhaus. Since then the council has been involved in numerous activities including fund raisers, meetings, charter revisions, elections, and award dinners. This collection is the written records along with a few audio records of the staff council's accomplishments and undertakings from 1971-2010.

Arrangement Note

This collection is arranged in two series, chronological files and chronological binders.

Method of Acquisition

Nelsy Livingston transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collection and University Archives in 2005 (CFU2005_28). Pauline Strauss and Michael Smith transferred additional materials in 2010 (CFU2010_03).

For more information on university archives, please see our website. Included in the collection was a book titled "University Cooks' Favorites" published by the Staff Council in 1988.

Processing Information

Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Lindsay Mazziotto in 2007. Replaced all metal paper clips and rubber bands with plastic paper clips. Copied all newspaper clippings or placed them between archival paper. Removed documents from three ring binders and placed them in acid free folders and then in acid free boxes.The finding aid was updated for consistency among all collections by Mary Rubin in 2012, resulting in edition 2. Half a box of additions were integrated into the collection by Nadeen Kiwan in November of 2014, resulting in edition 3 and a reorganization of how the two series were previously organized. The finding aid was placed into Archon, with adjustments made for Archon and resulting in edition 4, by Mary Rubin in 2015. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 5.
