Scope and Contents
Harrison "Buzz" Price was an economics consultant for the attractions and themed entertainment business. He began his career by assisting with the placement of Disneyland in Anaheim, CA in the early 1950's and later Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL in the 1960's. Beyond his work with Disney, Price performed economic consultations for companies such as Six Flags, Universal Studios, MGM, Cedars Fair and many other entertainment organizations and resorts. Price founded two economic consulting agencies, Economic Research Consultants (ERC), which he sold in 1969 and the Harrison Price Company (HPC), started in 1978. The collection is generally comprised of papers from the Harrison Price Company, but also includes some collected materials from earlier projects. The papers are divided into eight series: Reports, Proposals, Speeches, World's Fairs, Images, Subject Research Materials, Project Research Materials and Price Company Files.

Biographical or Historical Information
Harrison "Buzz" Price graduated as an engineer from Caltech, class of 1942 and attended Stanford receiving an M.B.A., Class of 1951. Price managed the Stanford Research Institute's LA office in the 1950s where he assisted with locating Disneyland in Anaheim. In 1958, he founded ERA, Economic Research Associates, a consulting company in economics. Price located Walt Disney World in Central Florida 1963, and wrote a Universal Studios tour feasibility analysis in 1964. In all, Price carried out 6,000 consulting studies with the staff of ERA peaking at 90.
In 1969, Price sold ERA to Planning Research Corporation, the world's largest conglomerate of professional service consulting. Price became Chairman of the Board after serving seven years in corporate management. Price then started an independent consulting company in 1978, founding Harrison Price Company. In 1994 Price was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) and was elected to the International Association of Amusement Parks Hall of Fame in 1995. For 37 years and up until his death, Price served as a trustee of CalArts, the Disney-founded school of all the arts, in Valencia, California where he served with Edie Wasserman. Price published a book in 2004 about his work in the themed entertainment and attractions business titled Walt's Revolution! By the Numbers . Harrison "Buzz" Price passed away in Pomona, California on August 15, 2010 at the age of 89.

Price later worked with companies such as Six Flags, Universal Studios, MGM, Cedars Fair and many other attractions and resorts. Price founded two economic consulting agencies, Economics Research Consultants (ERC), which he sold in 1969 and the Harrison Price Company (HPC), started in 1978. The collection generally comes from the Harrison Price Company, but also includes some collected materials from Economics Research Consultants and earlier projects.

Reports, 1952-2003
Holds reports that contain feasibility studies, research reports, and other studies created by HPC or other collected companies. Reports are in order by number, given by Price. Reports by HPC are numbered 1-900; other firms collected reports number over 1000. Some reports have a number and letter code, while others only have a number. The finding aid describes each report by client, project class, title, date, author, and if it was a Disney Project.
Proposals, 1978-2001
Contains proposal documentation and correspondence for research, consultation and other services performed by Price. Files are in original order in general subject categories as organized by Price.
Speeches, 1966-2006
Includes speeches given by Price at a variety of events documenting his many projects and professional activities. The speeches are arranged chronologically.
World's Fairs, 1974-1989
Documents Price's involvement and research on World's Fairs, specifically the fairs in Knoxville in 1982, the Louisiana world Exposition in 1984, and Vancouver's Expo in 1986. The bulk of the materials in this series document the Louisiana World Exposition and the lawsuits which occurred after the exposition went bankrupt.
Images, 1964-1997
Contains collected materials organized by location and project. Contents include pictures, negatives, slides, postcards, brochures, and posters from such places as Disneyland, Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, NASA, Hong Kong, Taiwan, London, Sydney, Japan, and China.
Subject Research Materials, 1960-1995
Holds collected materials that are organized in alphabetical order by a subject category. These materials were used for background research and initial information for multiple projects. Many of the research materials provided background for a variety of reports in Series "Reports, 1952-2003.
Project Research Materials, 1948-2005
Contains research materials for specific projects including Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Six Flags, Knott's Berry Farm, Cedar's Fair, The Longaberger Company, Silver Cup Studios, Silver Dollar City, among other projects. Some projects also include municipalities including the City of Norfolk, Virginia, the City of Cochella, California, the City of Branson, Missouri, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and governments such as Australia, Nigeria, Panama and others. These materials were collected as the research basis for projects that Price was hired to perform. Many of the research projects that are found in this series may not have necessarily become reports or proposals. In some cases, this series contains the only record of a project that Price worked on during his long career.
Price Company Files, 1963-2000
Contains materials from the Economic Research Associates, Planning Research Corporation, and Harrison Price Company. These materials consist of company profiles, correspondence, organization files, council and meeting files, faxes, projects, and Buzz files.

Method of Acquisition
The materials were donated to the University of Central Florida Special Collections by Harrison A. Price in 2003 (CFM2003_12). Additional materials comprising to Project Research Materials were donated in July of 2005 (CFM2005_19).

Processing Information
Collection processed by April Karlene Anderson, Heather Bollinger, Ryan Groves, Rebecca Hammond and Elizabeth Konzak; finding aid prepared by April Karlene Anderson, Heather Bollinger, Ryan Groves, Rebecca Hammond, Elizabeth Konzak and Lindsay Mazziotto. The materials were sorted into numerical order by Price's numbering scheme. All materials were placed in acid-free folders and boxes some binders or folders were removed to preserve the materials enclosed. Additional materials in series VII, Project Research Materials were minimally processed and kept in original order.
